Amelia Serio is a Licensed Practicing Clinical Counselor at Vita Nova Wellness. She attended Ohio University to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and later obtained her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Cleveland State University. Amelia has worked in various clinical settings with a consistent focus on helping clients heal from traumatic experiences. Her desire is to create a safe space facilitating growth through self-exploration and awareness.

Her experience in the field includes Multisystemic Therapy for problem sexual behaviors, assessment and outpatient counseling at a non-profit organization, working on a trauma response team, and presenting a suicide prevention technique (Question, Persuade, and Refer) to other helping professionals. Amelia has worked with inpatient, outpatient and incarcerated teens and adults. She has supported clients at varying stages of change, and utilizes EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) as her main mode of treatment. EMDR is a style of therapy that involves gaze tracking with guided prompts to help clients access traumatic memories. Once accessed, clients can use higher order thinking to revisit these memories with newfound insight and control. Coping skills and grounding techniques are taught prior to reprocessing.

Sessions with Amelia are strengths based and an opportunity to work cohesively to set and reach realistic goals. Amelia is thrilled to be part of Vita Nova Wellness and looks forward to collaborating with clients to promote positive change. She is accepting virtual EMDR clients and offers drug and alcohol assessments for teens and adults at this time.
